Celina 3For some students, getting through high-school successfully is a seemingly impossible task. As a student, they must analyze their learning skills, or they may encounter some problems in their early university and/or college life. Most cannot properly structure their thoughts while their notifications are lighting up their cellular devices, or their favorite show is on the night before a presentation. Bad work habits usually call for more stress, thus creating none other than "the grumpy teenager." The ultimate way to succeed in high school is to develop time management skills. There are a few ways to set a student on the right track to developing these skills.Being on time is the key to success. He or she must first ensure a clear attendance record. That morning rush that makes everyone late can be avoided in a few simple tasks. Folding the laundry, doing the dishes, or any other responsibilities should be done the night before. This will leave them some extra time in the morning, and they may even be able to catch up on some sleep. Waking up in the morning is no easy task without an efficient alarm clock. They must ensure that the alarm is an unpleasant sound, and loud enough to hear. Cellphones nowadays, are trusty tools that can be used for so much more than just texting; they also include an alarm clock, with a variety of sounds to choose from. In order to ensure they do not hit that snooze button, one should place their alarm clock far away from them. This way, they must get up in order to turn the alarm off. By following these steps, they may now be on time for class, and also be able to eat the most important meal of the day, breakfast. Most students miss this meal due to the fact that they do not wake up early enough. Making time to eat breakfast will enhance their ability to concentrate in school because their stomach will not grumble during that dreadful second period. They will then have time to take a refreshing shower, brush their teeth, put on their clothes, make their way to school, get to class, and take their seat; all before the ringing of that bell. Time management is developed through practice, so he or she must practice this routine every morning. The next step to a successful high school career is using an agenda. Not just buying one, or obtaining one through the school, but actually using it. The student should get one of those fancy pens that are used solely for writing important things, and put it in the binding of the agenda. Therefore, they will always have a pen handy to write down useful information. As soon as their teacher gives them homework, the student should record what it is, and the due date. If the student is on a sports team, club or council, he or she may write the dates of games, practices, meetings, but still ensure they have enough time to study for that upcoming test or quiz. There will be no need to scramble through every previous paper in an attempt to discover what the homework for that night is, or call a friend to ask when the test is; only to discover that it's tomorrow, with no time to study. By using this tool, the student will be able to put their thoughts on paper, further clearing the clutter and stress from their mind.Procrastination is a recipe for disaster. In order to succeed, one must avoid procrastination at all costs. He or she should assign a specific time of day to complete all school related tasks, and ensure that during this time, all distractions are out of sight and out of mind. The student will be much more productive and efficient in their work this way. For example, cellphones should be turned off as they play a huge part in the procrastination of the average teenager. For most, all it takes is one notification to completely throw off their train of thought, causing them to procrastinate for what may turn into hours. Once all distractions are away, the student can begin their work. It is best to sit at a table or a desk, as sitting or lying on a bed may cause tiredness and/or laziness. Teaching themselves this type of discipline will help the student prioritize, leading them closer to success. All these steps will prepare a student for not only academic success, but success throughout their high-school life. Little things such as writing in an agenda will go a long way, but remaining successful, requires discipline and personality. It is required that the student finds their own personal motivation to get out of bed for school every morning and strive towards it. Whether it be a good grade, or on a wider scale, such as a dream job. They should be optimistic in everything they do, they should be independent, motivated, organized and involved. Above all things, they should put an A+ effort into time management. Education should be a journey, not just something one survives through. Most only get one shot at high-school in their lifetime, so the opportunity should be taken head on, in order to be the best student they can be.
