Auto Immune Disease
Autoimmune disease is where the immune system attacks the healthy cells in your body. There are several types of autoimmune disease, from mild to severe. It often mistakes parts of your body as foreign material. There are over 80 types of autoimmune diseases, affecting over 24 million people today. Your healthy cells are attacked and you are no longer protected from disease and infection. There is no cause for autoimmune disease but it can run in the family, with women at a higher risk to receive. Flare-ups and remissions are possible with autoimmune diseases. Treatment is possible but there is no cure.
Personally, as a fighter of an autoimmune disease, I would never wish it upon anybody. I suffer from an inflammatory bowel disease, known as Crohn’s. This is inflammation in the lining of the tissues that affects the GI tracts. With Crohn’s, anywhere from the mouth to the anus can be affected. Almost every day, I realize that I suffer from this disease. I can barely eat anything without getting sick. I am on multiple medicines multiple times a day to help with comfort, although it does not always help me. Some days are worse than others and sometimes I have major flare-ups where I end up in the hospital for a few days, which...
