The members who were displaying the lack of professionalism were not present at their assignments for the operation. During the meeting, emphasis was placed on being at the location prior to the replenishment. John, the team leader used the ship's microphone to advise all members on the team to immediately proceed to their assignment. The conflict was realized by the experienced team members. The experienced team members knew if the crew was not on station, the ship's security was jeopardized and the replenishment would cost the navy more money.The team members finally made it to their assignments. The refueling ship which was scheduled to replenish the navy ship arrived on station and the evolution was ready to commence. My station which was in the JP-5 pump room was manned and ready. A team member took a sample of fuel from the refueling ship. The fuel sample was brought to my station and I ran quality tests on the fuel. Once the sample was proved sufficient to be brought on board the ship, the replenishment process began. John, an effective and empowering team leader advised all team members to be vigilant and alert. John was a faith based person, he believed in striving for what was right. John had earned the respect of every team member. The leader sets the example that the other team members follow, and she/he must earn the respect of the team. When the team members no longer respect the team leader, the downward spiral begins. Respect can not be coerced. It can only be earned. Our team leader had an invaluable role in our team and each team assignment. Team members were able to communicate well with each other. Communication barriers hinder the progress of teams. Maintaining a successful team requires an abundance of communication. Keep team members informed about the status of the project. Check in with the team members frequently to see how work is progressing. Secrecy breeds resentment. The team leader was informing each member at their station on the progress of the task. The refueling process was operating without any dilemmas. The team members were aware of the achievements and were waiting to complete the assignment.The mission of the team was to safely conduct the underway replenishment operation. The 60,000 gallons of JP-5 was replenished on the ship. Team members were told to remain at their assignments until told otherwise by the team leader. The team leader inspected each station for discrepancies. The ships which were steaming side by side removed the fuel hoses. The team leader informed each member to meet for a debriefing. The team was congratulated for the successful completion of the operation. Conflict during the operation was addressed.
