Most organizations maintain and manage large amounts of information. One of the most efficient and powerful information management computer applications is the relational database. Information can be stored, linked, and managed using a single relational database application and its associated tools. In my organization information is one of our most important assets. This information includes customer records, sales and marketing data, accounts receivable, accounts payable and inventory records. We utilize Datastream7i to do the following tasks:* Work management* Materials management* Preventive maintenance* Asset management services* Budgeting* Equipment management* MS Project integration* Mobile applicationsThe MS Access size limitation continues to be an issue for our maintenance department. Once the database reaches an excess of 25MB in size, problems arise. Because we process more than 1000 maintenance records each month, the data must be archived often to protect the database integrity. Bunker Hill, a database development and re-engineering company reported that the maximum database size of MS-Access is about 1/2 to 2 GB. The practical number of concurrent users depends on database size. Network and application performance decreases substantially as the number of concurrent users increase.We have set a retirement plan for this system to move to our MS SQL database. This database currently houses our relational manufacturing-related information.
