Artifact Paper #2
Early this semester I had an interaction with a faculty member at Prairie View A&M University, for the sake of libel I will call her Jane. It was during the first week of school and it was loaded with so many activities and tasks to complete, one of the activities is Open House. Open House is where all student organizations recruit new students to join the organization, for the past years open house has been on September on the same day right after the Career Fair, but this year Jane was promoted to be the program coordinator of the Office of Student Engagement. This year she had the bright idea to have open house in the first week of school and not only that but change the name to “Involvement Fair”. I did not know this until someone from my organization called me an hour before the event started. We hasted towards the event to see if it was true, because we did not see any announcement or received an email telling us open house was happening on the first week of school. To our surprise many organizations where setting up, so we asked around to see who we should talk to get permission to set up.
Students immediately pointed out that we should talk to jane and ask her to let us set up. I and the president of my organization approached her with respect and asked her if could set up and did not knew that open house was early this year. To our surprise she responded with a crude terrible attitude asking what our organization’s name was. After telling her we are from SHPE she responded that we were not an active organization, even though we have been active since 2007. We asked if she could help us find out what we need to do to be on the university’s system and how to do it. She rolled her eyes and said we were screwed, I was in total awe, but my president could not hold back and asked her why she was being rude and not helping us. Then she told us to go to PvPawlink, the university’s system for managing student organizations, she also said we should already be familiar with PvPawlink, but we never received any training from her or the staff in charge. Then she said we were not in PvPawlink and we could not participate in any event period, then she turned around and walked away from us. The next thing we did is find out who were her superiors, once we found them, we explained to them what ...
