Appearances​ ​are​ ​used​ ​to​ ​deceive​ ​throughout​ ​all​ ​of​ ​​Othello,​ ​​they​ ​show​ ​the​ ​characters
appearances​ ​and​ ​how​ ​other​ ​characters​ ​perceive​ ​one​ ​another​ ​and​ ​this​ ​occurs​ ​threw​ ​race,
gender​ ​representations​ ​and​ ​social​ ​status
​ ​Othello​ ​was​ ​profiled​ ​throughout​ ​the​ ​entire​ ​play​ ​because​ ​of​ ​his​ ​appearance​ ​as​ ​a​ ​black
man​ ​but​ ​was​ ​still​ ​the​ ​leader​ ​of​ ​the​ ​venetian​ ​army.​ ​​Othello​ ​​was​ ​made​ ​in​ ​the​ ​Elizabethan​ ​Era
where​ ​black​ ​individuals​ ​were​ ​still​ ​remembered​ ​as​ ​slaves.Othello​ ​and​ ​Desdemona's​ ​marriage
had​ ​some​ ​very​ ​bad​ ​backlash​ ​on​ ​their​ ​community​ ​and​ ​society​ ​and​ ​some​ ​considered​ ​it​ ​to​ ​be
something​ ​that's​​ ​​"against​ ​all​ ​rules​ ​of​ ​nature"(1.3.102)​​ ​​.Society​ ​back​ ​then​ ​deemed​ ​a​ ​romantic
relationship​ ​between​ ​a​ ​black​ ​and​ ​white​ ​as​ ​not​ ​right,​ ​which​ ​resulted​ ​in​ ​Othello​ ​and​ ​Desdemona's
relationship​ ​being​ ​destroyed.​ ​There​ ​was​ ​actually​ ​no​ ​actual​ ​reason​ ​for​ ​society​ ​to​ ​deem​ ​Othello
and​ ​Desdemona's​ ​relationship​ ​inappropriate​ ​or​ ​not​ ​right,​ ​Othello​ ​was​ ​equally​ ​if​ ​not​ ​much​ ​more
qualified​ ​and​ ​successful​ ​to​ ​be​ ​Desdemona's​ ​husband,​ ​he​ ​was​ ​a​ ​higher​ ​rank​ ​than​ ​all​ ​other​ ​men
and​ ​had​ ​a​ ​friendship​ ​with​ ​Desdemona's​ ​father;Brabantio.The​ ​marriage​ ​was​ ​disapproved​ ​only
because​ ​Othello​ ​was​ ​a​ ​black​ ​man​ ​and​ ​Desdemona​ ​was​ ​a​ ​white​ ​female.
Othello​ ​​took​ ​place​ ​in​ ​an​ ​even​ ​more​ ​male​ ​privileged​ ​era​ ​then​ ​the​ ​one​ ​that​ ​we​ ​are​ ​in​ ​right
now,​ ​where​ ​women​ ​had​ ​it​ ​a​ ​lot​ ​worse​ ​then​ ​they​ ​do​ ​right​ ​now​ ​in​ ​the​ ​present.​ ​At​ ​that​ ​time​ ​women
were​ ​more​ ​of​ ​objects​ ​to​ ​men​ ​than​ ​human​ ​beings​ ​and​ ​that's​ ​not​ ​an​ ​exaggeration​ ​either​ ​back​ ​then
a​ ​human​ ​female​ ​was​ ​either​ ​their​ ​fathers​ ​or​ ​husbands​ ​property.​ ​Emilia,​ ​Desdemona​ ​and​ ​Bianca
all​ ​showed​ ​some​ ​type​ ​of​ ​love​ ​to​ ​their​ ​significant​ ​other​ ​but​ ​their​ ​relationships​ ​were​ ​quickly​ ​turned
doubt​ ​or​ ​dismissal​ ​to​ ​the​ ​public.​ ​At​ ​the​ ​time​ ​women​ ​were​ ​perceived​ ​and​ ​appeared​ ​as​ ​less
superior​ ​to​ ​men​ ​and​ ​both​ ​men​ ​and​ ​women​ ​had​ ​a​ ​general​ ​sense​ ​of​ ​it:​ ​Iago​ ​described​ ​women​ ​as
“pictures​ ​out​ ​of​ ​doors,​ ​bells​ ​in​ ​your​ ​parlours,​ ​wild-cats​ ​in​ ​your​ ​kitchen,​ ​saints​ ​in​ ​your​ ​injuries,
devils​ ​being​ ​offended,players​ ​in​ ​your​ ​housewifery,​ ​and​ ​housewives​ ​in​ ​your​ ​beds”(2.1.108)​ ​truly
