SECTION I Personality and Self-Concept
This course has taught me about leadership and the qualities I need to become a great leader. This has always been difficult for me to recognize because self-reflection is the one thing a lot of people do not like to do. Taking assessments such as The Jungian Typology provided me with the insight to understand myself. Seeing the results reassured me that these are the areas of behavior I really want to change.

Being so introverted has gotten in the way of building relationships in the workforce and even productivity. If I have to do something that requires me to get out of my shell, (like being around large crowds), I tend to shut down. I have missed many opportunities for growth and promotion, such as becoming a manager for a department, because of this. My goal is to use this result and change how introverted I am by being more interactive and communicating even when it isn't in my comfort zone.

One of my biggest weaknesses, as a leader, is my lack of communication when I can't do something myself. I am one of those people who likes to be good at everything so when I can't complete something, I get angry at myself and shut down. Asking for help is like pulling teeth for me. I will only communicate last minute if there is no other option.

Communication is a skill I need to improve on because I believe it is key to building trust in a team. If the team sees that my lines of communication are clear no matter how I feel about reaching out for help, we can work collectively to deal with any situation. Communication allows a team to become strong because everything is clear. If I don't improve this skill, my team will react in the same manner which can create delays and confusion in the workplace.

I also believe I can improve by becoming more confident in myself as a leader. I often find myself doubting my capabilities and questioning if I can actually complete a complicated task. I always limit myself because I doubt myself so much. As a leader, you need to be confident in who you are and the decisions you make. If I don't possess confidence, I can't be the effective leader my team needs. I must be confident because I want to create those types of strong leaders. People are led by example and it all starts with the environment I create for them.

Although I do have weaknesses, I also possess many personality strengths that will help me to become a great leader. One aspect of my personality that serves as a strength is my integrity. If I am a leader, integrity is something I believe I should possess because in doing the right thing and sticking to my beliefs, it shows that I can grow a team with the same strong moral principles. In turn, the team will trust me and know that whatever decision I make is for their betterment. They will never feel uncomfortable or unsure because they know I have integrity.
